Foreword from the principal

"The stability of a building relies on the strength of its foundation."MSE- was created with a dream to put a foundation which fosters high quality education and a community that nurtures national pride in our culture and values. This dream is a successful reality now.

Therefore, education in MSE is the base, the support and the re-enforcement to build a student into an adult capable of entering into the world and facing its challenges.

Step by step, level by level students at MSE, are elevated to heights of unlimited potential within the learning environment. This is done by providing our students with a supportive environment that recognizes each individual’s needs and talents, encourages students aspirations and creates opportunities for them to become confident, responsible and self-disciplined adults.

Therefore students are stimulated to be the Best that they can be, appreciated for the talents which they may hold and rewarded for their ongoing advances to success.Every student in MSE is unique in his or her own way.

Every child has a talent and a drive to be the best.Every child needs to speak freely and let his or her opinion be known.Every child has a dream and we are proud at MSE to play an active role in molding our students and helping them to make their dreams come true.

My journey in MSE. In the year 2000, the founding year, I joined MSE. My class is the first class to start in kindergarten and finish high school, spending 14 years in MSE. I got so attached to the school; I have made friends that will stay my friends for eternity. I have met teachers that define how a teacher should be; they were role models, great mentors and great teachers. Thanks to MSE I was able to apply to all the universities proudly. I have applied to the AUC, GUC, MIU, BUE and Arab Academy for Science Technology & Maritime Transport. I got accepted in all of them and I got very impressive grades in their admission tests but at the end I decided to join the GUC as an Engineering student. It is worth mentioning that whether I had chosen the GUC or any other university, I would have found some of my school friends there. Wherever you go you will find MSE students. The school has left a great impact on me, I have so many memories that I will never forget. I would like to share some of those memories with you. I remember when the 25th of Jan. revolution broke out and things weren’t very stable, our school and only our school made sure we don’t miss our lessons as well as not to endanger our safety by enrolling in an online teaching website where students can listen to the lessons and get involved in the learning experience from home. I remember all those events the school held including the sports day where I won 2nd place in a squash competition , bearing in mind that not many students can say that they have squash courts in their school.
I remember when a TV programme came to school and asked me to interview Dr. Rafida about her job. I remember how I was very impressed with her answers and with the amount of love she has to this school and to the students. She always made sure that her students would become better people and that we would be of a strong effect on our community and on Egypt.
I remember one of the extracurricular activities the school offered where the school allowed university students to come to our school and offer us to join the “Model of the United Nations” together with other schools. I was able to join this activity three times and got the “best delegate” those three times. I still remember my graduation from the primary stage, to start a new experience in the preparatory stage. I remember the first student -made newsletter, It was done by me with the help of some other students from my class. My school made sure it had an effective role in community and opened a branch in 57357 (children cancer hospital) which made us very proud. We joined an art competition, together with other schools, in the hospital to increase awareness of cancer and of the possible causes of it and we won first place.
Thanks to MSE my German language got so good that I passed the German placement exam at the GUC with an A+ and actually applying for universities in Germany now, Meine Lehrerinnen haben mir sehr geholfen und ich bedanke mich bei ihnen.
I still can’t believe that my school days are over , I got so fond of my school uniform and my school days, but I have learnt so many life lessons from school, They assure me that it would be impossible to ever forget this amazing institution. I am doing my best because I have always believed that “Today’s learners are Tomorrow’s leaders”
P.S. By the time you read this, I will be on my way to Germany, as I have just received my acceptance letter at one of the major universities in Germany for Engineering Technologies.
Thank you MSE

Made in MSE

I look back in the years and I can still clearly see myself as a young new teacher stumbling as she takes her first steps towards the classroom. I guess I didn’t realize the gravity of being a kindergarten teacher until I met the children. I saw them with their parents and the idea of a “class of children” was instantly erased and replaced by a completely new idea, they are individuals not just a “class”. Parents, grandparents, older siblings, all present the child to you carefully wrapped in their love and protection, like a fragile piece of precious crystal. They hand him over to you with so much to say about him, and with this fear in their eyes that is much greater than the child’s own fear as they leave him in school for the first time in your hands. This picture, and the picture of their eager full of faith eyes staring at me for the first time, waiting for the miracles that will come out of my mouth. It totally changed my preconceived image about teaching and put a whole new concept to it. This is no picnic. This is HUGE.
I would hear people complain about their jobs, waiting for the weekend, waiting for the annual leave, I would read articles about how life changes if you love what you do and that you should take measures to try to like your job. All I could think was, what are they talking about? I didn’t feel any of this. I was already there in the place most people only dream about, I was in the place where I woke up every morning excited about going to school. That may sound unreal and hypocritical but it was true. I think I was lucky enough to experience something that people rarely experience, having a happy job. Yes! A happy job is what best describes it. The first year wasn’t easy. The first years weren’t easy. But every passing day I discovered something, revealed a tiny part of the mystery of how to become a good teacher. It was no picnic, it was an adventure, a very enlightening and exciting one and there is a reason for that.
What does it feel like when you go out with your friends every single day? That was what the group I have worked with was! My best friends. We worked together, explored together, collaborated, shared! We were supported to the max. It was a magical working atmosphere that is prone to bring out the best in anyone. My strengths were encouraged in public whereas my flaws were discussed in private in a warm and decent manner. The trust I was given put a huge sense of responsibility on my shoulders that I had to work hard to live up to it. There was genuine care from everyone starting from the highest authority in the department and ending with the stage nannies. Three words define the framework of success: care, trust and stability. They all were there.
The years passed by and I was still feeling far from revealing the mystery, how to be a good teacher. I was too absorbed in the joyful experiment I didn’t notice that 14 years have passed by. As my previous students got taller and taller I felt my roots were digging deeper in this place. I was locking myself unintentionally in a comfort zone and felt I yet had a lot to discover and I was still very far from my target. My superiors saw the fact that I was overlooking. They saw that this comfort zone was becoming too narrow for me, and it was about time they showed some tough love. “Do studies, look for anything to enhance your career, if within three days you don’t come to me with a plan don’t bother coming to say good morning.” True story!
I was too happy to think of leaving, I was appreciated, trusted, supported and loved. It was extremely difficult to seek other opportunities, until it came right to my doorstep, right into my classroom. Things happened so quickly I found myself asked by a reputable British publisher to be the author of their new kindergarten curriculum teacher’s guide. I was speechless, they saw in me someone who could share her experience with other teachers not only in Egypt but around the world. I wrote the book while still teaching, the book was published and they were impressed, obviously impressed enough to offer me the thing I had been dreading for years, a full time job.
It was about time but my heart was broken. In the interview I was asked the famous question: why do you want to leave the MSE? “I don’t!” was my reply. I had to leave to a wider circle. I took the decision and said my goodbyes. I walked out the last day of school trying to suck in all the memories that have made me the person I am today. In my years in MSE I became a better teacher, musician, nurse, artist, athlete, psychologist... I became a better person. Now, I finally know what it feels like to wait for weekends! The thing I never did before.
